Dr. Clark graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991 following a previous career as a marine biologist. He has been in practice for the past 16 years, the first 6 of which were on Vancouver Island. John's wife Annemarie is a family doctor in Vancouver and they are both very proud of their two great kids, Jack (5) and Ella (7). John became part owner of GIVH in 2003, splitting his efforts between GIVH and The Animal Clinic on Cornwall until November 2005, when the two clinics merged. As a dedicated veterinarian, John brings a wealth of experience to GIVH, particularly in the surgical arena. He especially enjoys challenging soft tissue surgery cases.
"The healthcare team at GIVH has allowed me to practice to the highest standards. It is of great value to our five Doctors to be able to confer with each other on challenging cases during daily rounds, and our 6 well trained animal health technologists provide top notch support. It is comforting to have 24 hour nursing staff so overnight cases are monitored and treated throughout the night. This is extremely rare in general practices but is crucial in providing the best care possible, in my opinion. It also allows all of us to sleep better!
I am thrilled to be part of the GIVH team!"

Born in Vancouver Dr. Tara Huggins is our very own world traveler. She graduated with the combined education of UVIC and UBC with both Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education degrees. In her first career, Tara was a high school science teacher in Mexico, Guatemala and St. John's New Brunswick. After graduating from the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island Dr. Huggins chose to come home to Vancouver and share her positive attitude and world of knowledge with the clients and patients of Granville Island Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Huggins is an active member of the Canadian Animal Assistance Team, lending a hand to animals in need in both New Orleans and Peru. Tara has a special place in her heart for senior animals and shares her home with one lucky Ole Lady. Ole Lady is a cat that was rescued from the streets and she is so old and such a lady. With her free time Dr. Tara Huggins enjoys traveling.

Dr. Ignacio grew up in Hawaii. (Yes, it was nice. No, he doesn't surf.) He graduated from Colorado State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in 2002. He has always enjoyed working with all types of animals, so he accepted an internship in Equine Medicine at The Okotoks Animal Clinic outside of Calgary, Alberta. But love for the ocean brought him out to the coast and Vancouver, which he now calls home. He misses the horses, but loves that he gets to practice high quality medicine and surgery in a well-staffed, progressive small animal hospital. His dream car is a 1969 Ford Thunderbird and he has an irrational fear of avocados.

Kristie graduated from the University of Sydney in 2006 and started her career in a busy small animal practice in southern Sydney, Australia. She moved to Vancouver with her husband in August 2009 to experience living and working in a new country. She started locuming at Granville Island Veterinary Hospital soon after and joined the team full time in March 2010. Kristie feels very fortunate to be working with such a great group of people in such a beautiful city. She enjoys all aspects of her profession, but particularly soft tissue surgery and diagnostic imaging.
In her spare time, Kristie enjoys skiing, cooking (or more commonly watching her husband cook), reading and going to concerts. She is looking forward to exploring more of British Columbia while living here and is hoping that the rain will eventually stop.
Kristie adopted a gorgeous 12 year old Siamese cross cat called Zefferelli from the clinic in March. He has fit in perfectly and it's as if he has always lived with her and her husband.
